A Public Monument for Orland Bartholomew

Clovis, like many small towns, has few people who have made big contributions to the world. One former resident of Clovis, Tollhouse, and Big Creek, is an exception, and yet is little known. Orland Bartholomew skied the spine of the Sierras alone in 1928-1929 and made the first winter ascent of Mt. Whitney. I propose a public monument to this important figure so that tourists passing through Clovis, 'the gateway to the Sierras,' and youths growing up in it can know about what this town values, especially self-sufficiency, excellence, and a close economic and spiritual relationship with the Sierra Nevada. See the recent story in the Fresno Bee (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGjWpzZfIdg) and the speech of George Radanovich who proposed a peak to be named after him (https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/CRECB-1999-pt6/html/CRECB-1999-pt6-Pg8680-2.htm).
