Drop Egg Producer Caught Abusing Animals

Animal activists are plucking angry. Angry at the revelations that the country's largest producer of shell eggs — Cal-Maine — has been caught in an animal abuse scandal of epic proportions.

Undercover investigators revealed video evidence, to law enforcement, of employees and management subjecting chickens to unspeakable cruelty. Hens were filmed being beaten to death with sticks, punched, slammed against the ground, stuffed in packed cages and even being pulled apart alive.

The evidence was so shocking that one manager has already been charged with animal cruelty. Hopefully, many more will follow. But aside from legal punishment, Cal-Maine should also be held accountable financially. That is where you come in. The egg producers are one of the main suppliers to both Publix and Walmart. Are they going to continue to purchase from Cal-Maine knowing about the horrific conditions the laying hens have endured?

Publix, for one, has cut their relationship with companies that harmed their animals before. Last year, when news of rampant animal abuse against dairy cows made headlines, the grocery store chain suspended their orders. They wanted to send a message to their customers that they cared about animal welfare. The animal victims may have changed but the abuse is still the same and it's time to call on Publix again to stop buying from yet another company that allowed animal cruelty to fester in their organization.

Add your name to the list and ask Publix AND Walmart to end their relationship with Cal-Maine and stand up against animal cruelty.

Dear Decisionmaker,

As a customer and someone who is concerned about the welfare of animals, I urge you to cut ties with Cal-Maine foods and stop purchasing eggs from the company.

You have previously cut ties with companies that harmed their animals by suspending their orders. You wanted to send a message to your customers that you care about animal welfare. The animal victims may have changed but the abuse is still the same and it's time to renew your commitment. Please stop buying from yet another company that allowed animal cruelty to fester in their organization.
