Atrazine is an herbicide that is used in the United States to eliminate broadleaf and other weeds. Currently, it is the second most used herbicide in the United States even though the 23 countries that make up the European Union have banned it. In the article “Atrazine and Human Health” by Raj Kumar Pathak and Anil Kuar Dikshit, they talk about the adverse affects that Atrazine has on humans. Some of these are tumors, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, birth defects, and infertility. Atrazine doesn’t only affect humans, in the article “The Frog of War” by Dashka Slater, she talks about the research that shows Atrazine being a large cause in the decline of frog population in the United States.
Some farmers argue that banning this product would cause them to lose too much of their crop and they would make less money. However, according to Frank Ackerman, Melissa Whited, and Patrick Knight’s article “Would banning atrazine benefit farmers?” farmers would actually make more money if Atrazine was banned.
