Stop the Barred Owl Cull!

The British Columbia government has approved the shooting of 39 barred owls after relocating 73 in an effort to save its endangered cousin species, the northern spotted owl. Northern spotted owls are on the brink of extinction, with an estimated 10 birds remaining in the wild, and the barred owls pose a threat by competing for food and habitat and interbreeding with the endangered birds.

While its important to preserve the endangered northern spotted owls, shooting its cousin species is unacceptable. There is also the danger of shooting the wrong bird by mistake, further jeopardizing the spotted owls.

The government has already relocated 73 of the barred owls, proving that relocation is a viable, cruelty-free alternative to killing the birds. Please sign the petition to convince the B.C. government to concentrate on humane relocation and end their culling plans.

We, the undersigned, are concerned about the approved shooting of 39 barred owls in an effort to save its endangered cousin species, the northern spotted owl. We understand that northern spotted owls are on the brink of extinction, and the barred owls pose a threat by competing for food and habitat and interbreeding with the endangered birds.

While its important to preserve the endangered northern spotted owls, we believe that killing their competitors is too harsh. There is also the danger of shooting the wrong bird by mistake, further jeopardizing the spotted owls.

The government has already relocated 73 of the barred owls, proving that relocation is a viable, cruelty-free alternative to killing the birds. We respectfully urge you to concentrate on humane relocation and end your culling plans.
