Urge the Government of Ghana to Increase Measures to Protect its Forests

Illegal logging is decimating bird numbers in Ghana, according to a report in Mongabay.com

Researchers have found that within 15 years, bird numbers have fallen by more than half across the country.

This is while illegal and legal logging operations increased by 600 percent in Ghana’s highly-biodiverse Upper Guinean rainforests.

According to Global Forest Watch, Ghana lost more than half a million hectares of forest from 2001 through to 2014. Logging can destroy habitat while opening up remaining areas to poaching and other human activities.

The birds and rainforests of Ghana desperately need protecting. Will you join me in urging the Government of Ghana to increase measures to protect its forests from illegal logging, including more forest rangers, law enforcement, and adding road-blocks to logging roads?
