Redirect Funds to Support the Homeless! Tell LA: Stop Giving Homeless Money to Police!

More than 34,393 people were homeless in Los Angeles alone in 2014. The homeless population then grew 9% between 2011 and 2013. Yet the city has been taking money that is meant to help homeless people and giving it to the police instead.

That's right -- over half the $100 million LA spends each year on homelessness goes to police. It's policies like this that contribute to overcriminalization of the homeless, instead of efforts to help get them off the streets.

Please sign my petition to ask Los Angeles City Council to redirect funds from police and to put that $50 million toward affordable housing solutions, such as the Shelter Plus Care program.

Los Angeles has the second highest number of homeless people in the U.S., next to New York City. The homeless population in LA remains a huge problem, despite the hundreds of millions of dollars allocated to government programs each year to get people off the streets.

How much do you think the percentage of homeless people will drop if the homeless community actually receives the money they're supposed to?
