In ALL of Ontario there are only 496 beds for 157 Woman only facilities. Which means 3.1 beds only per facility for a woman fleeing domestic violence without dependents in there forties+. No where in the Shelters for Abused Woman in Canada 2010 are statistical reports stating HOW many woman are in shelters after age 34. With age WHY is it woman fade? Where DO they go? Back to there abuser or suicide in most cases. Homelessness and suicide are highest in woman forty+. We can RARELY get emergency shelter or funding. Without dependants usually means NO funding/housing. Which is why financially being dependant is another form of power. Most have no skills or resources and dont no how to use the tools that are available. Isolation, control and fear are a great factor. Abuse also wears you down which is why fatigue and depression are so very common. Tis why it is sometimes easier to go back without having a voice or an advocate. So tired from so many doors being shut in your face makes one lose hope and faith. Let us bring back belief in the good. In faith. One signature at a time. Please help.
