Help Us STOP Luv A Paw From Endangering Animals!!!

The Cause:
Located in Wautoma, Wisconsin, Luv A Paw rescue is possibly endangering animals that enter their care. Operating out of her home, "Rescue Director" Tammie Grimshaw transfers innocent animals from out of state animal control facilities, and brings them in "Luv A Paw" where they are subjected to deadly diseases already in her home and facility (including Parvovirus and Pneumonia). This rescue has two current open investigations (Sheriffs Dept. and Health Dept.) and has received more than 20 formal complaints since last October about the facility, animal care, animal health, and animal death shortly after adoption. This has been going on for MONTHS, and local Oshkosh newspaper "The Northwestern" did a story about the open investigations and many complaints back on October 27th, 2010. It has been MONTHS and no action has been taken by the state departments investigating this issue. Our mission is to STOP this rescue from transferring and endangering more animals, bring to light the issues, and to get Tammie and Luv A Paw SHUT DOWN!

The Background:

Know the FACTS! Parvovirus alone can survive 5-9 months outside of a host, and thrives on inanimate objects. It can be transferred by shoes, fur, hands, feces, etc., so anyone even going into her home to adopt or visit with a pet can transfer the virus without even realizing it. The incubation period (before showing clinical signs) of Parvo is 7-14 days, so a perfectly healthy looking animal that gets this virus can become ill very quickly. When confronted and told that an animal has died, she takes no precaution or preventative measures to ensure other animals safety, and she continues to adopt out pets without informing new families of the possible danger. She takes these animals and charges an "adoption donation" that can only be made in cash. In the home itself, the animals are kept in unknown living quarters (you are not allowed to see where the animals reside), there are numerous cats and dogs running freely both outside and inside, and they are exposed deadly and extremely contagious diseases including Parvovirus and Pneumonia (without any preventative care). When questioned about what animal control facilities work with her and she transfers from, she claims that she has confidentiality agreements with them and cannot divulge the information (from Northwestern Article). This is NOT the case, as with any credible rescue, the animals history and past medical and shelter experiences should be open, and I do not know of any rescue or animal control facility that requests a confidentiality agreement.

Our story:
We recently adopted a 10 week old puppy from Luv A Paw, and we lost him within a weeks time to Parvovirus and Pneumonia. Showing NO signs of bad health upon adoption (minus a runny nose), our puppy stopped eating and drinking within 2 days, and on the second day was admitted to the ICU at our area Emergency Vet. Within a weeks time and even with all of the intensive care of two separate vet clinics.... our puppy lost his battle. With the timeline, and the 7-14 day incubation period of Parvo, our pup was exposed while in the care of Luv A Paw. When told of this disease at her facility, Tammie did not return any phone calls, and continues to adopt out animals. After further investigation, the lack of medical record and veterinary documentation leads us to believe that our puppy did not receive the vet care needed.

HELP OUT!!!
Please help out by signing our petition to get her to clean up or shut down! It takes only a few moments and every signature counts. The State of Wisconsin really has no animal laws that protect stray animals (Act 90 cannot be enforced until July 2011), and she keeps slipping through the cracks and the investigations remain open until she makes a fatal mistake. We NEED to shed light on this dire situation, and I plan on taking this case to the Waushara County District Attorney. This petition CAN make a difference!
