Save the Hyacinth Macaw

The Hyacinth Macaw is endangered because of poachers who illegally capture them and sell them as pets. The Brazilian government officially outlawed poaching, but is doing little to actually crack down on poaching and selling the Hyacinth Macaw.

Please sign this petition to join the worldwide campaign demanding that Brazil take concrete steps to end the illegal trade of Hyacinth Macaws -- before it's too late!

The Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus), or Hyacinthine Macaw, is a parrot native to central and eastern South America. With a length (from the top of its head to the tip of its long pointed tail) of about 100 cm (3.3 ft) it is longer than any other species of parrot.

The Hyacinth Macaw is endangered because of habitat loss and because people trap and sell them as pets. In the 1980s, it is estimated that at least 10,000 birds were taken from the wild. The macaw's habitat is dwindling because of ranching and agriculture. The bird has even been hunted for food.

Brazil's laws will only protect the Hyacinth Macaw if the government enforces them. Please tell Brazil to crack down on the illegal bird trade and take concrete action to protect the Hyacinth Macaw.
