Ban Cruel Body-Gripping Traps

Attepting to kill groundhogs, Hazel Park Harness Raceway in Hazel Park, Michigan, set body- gripping traps which accidentally caught and killed a kitten.

These indiscriminate traps often catch non-target wildlife species, birds, endanderered animals and even companion dogs and cats. When they are caught in these extremely cruel body-gripping traps, they die in shock and pain because these traps are nearly impossible to open without the correct key device to release the locking mechanism.

When an animal is caught in a body-gripping trap, it may be killed instantly; but often the terrified victims suffer severe physical injury, psychological trauma, thirst, hypothermia, and predation. And once again, it does not always trap the animal it was intended for, anyway.

If there is a genuine need to move animals, live-trap devices, such as culvert traps or box-traps, can, if properly used and maintained, be used at little risk to either target or non-target species. Stop using the body-gripping traps.
