Stop Female Genital Mutilation

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) has already affected the lives of approximately 200 million women and could possibly future affect the lives of 300 million more. FGM is seen as a cultural tradition and is a deep rooted inequality that is founded on the differences between the sexes.
Approximately every 10 seconds a female is mutilated using this process. This is usually performed on young girls anywhere from infancy to the age of 15. There is no type of anesthetic used and the procedure even changes the sexual response in these young girls, meaning that the act of sex gives them very little or no feeling whatsoever. It also can cause infertility and complicate future births.
There is absolutely no medical reason that this should be performed. Women who have had this procedure done are also twice as likely to die during a future birth.
FGM is still prevalent in 29 of the world's countries.
Lastly, FGM is seen as a way to control or dominate these women.
