Ask the State to Pay Its Fair Share

It's been determined the State owes the City more than $20M in reimbursement for housing State detainees in City jails.

The City of St. Louis is demanding that Governor Eric Greitens direct the State Department of Corrections to review State Statute 221.105 and revisit the matrix for payment that was determined in 1996.

It costs the City $80 per day to house a detainee facing State charges.

The City of St. Louis can no longer subsidize 75% of the costs of housing state detainees.

Missouri State statute 221.105 sets a pay matrix of $37.05 per day per inmate to the City. However last year, the City was only paid $21.08 per inmate per day. This equates to a $5.7M shortfall.

Over the years, it equals approximately $20M missing from the City's bank account.
