Save Westland Petrel.

Westland Petrel (Latin Procellaria westlandica) - a rare sea bird of the family Shearwaters, endemic to New Zealand.

The bird spends most of his time in the South Pacific between Australia and South America. Birds come ashore only to raise their young. The only known nesting species is close to Punakayki in the South Island of New Zealand.

The chicks are born in the period from July to August, ie winter in the southern hemisphere. Birds feed them until November, and then the young birds leave the colony for the next 7 years. In the winter Punakayki can sometimes observe flocks of these birds, when they come back with a search for food.

IUCN classifies the species as threatened. Population size is about 4,000 birds.
Urgent action. This is a very rare species of birds.
