Ban Gestation and Veal Crates in Connecticut!

Fast food giants, major pork suppliers and 20 percent of U.S. states have completely banned or are phasing out gestation crates. Unfortunately, gestation and veal crates remain legal in the state of Connecticut.

Gestation crates and veal crates confine sows and calves in small cages so tight they can't stretch or turn around. Pigs may be kept in the crates for up to four months at a time in life-long cycles. One undercover investigator recalled seeing the sows' joy upon being released from the crates, only to be moved into different crates to give birth.

Seven state representatives have introduced House Bill 5838 that would ban the use of gestation crates and veal crates in Connecticut. Please sign the petition to support this bill.

Dear Connecticut Legislators,

We, the undersigned are writing in support of House Bill 5838, which would end the use of gestation and veal crates in the state of Connecticut.

Fast food giants, major pork suppliers and 20 percent of U.S. states have completely banned or are phasing out gestation crates. As you may know, the crates confine sows and calves in small cages so tight they can't stretch or turn around. Pigs may be kept in the crates for up to four months at a time in life-long cycles. One undercover investigator recalled seeing the sows' joy upon being released from the crates, only to be moved into different crates to give birth.

We respectfully urge you to stand up for animal welfare and pass House Bill 5838. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
