Children of parents working unpredictable work schedules have more problems learning, solving problems, and communicating than their peers. When parents have little control over their schedule, like night shifts or rotating shifts, it can be difficult to raise children with a predictable routine and secure childcare. Often, the impacted workers are not adequately compensated for working on-call.
Let's send the message to Congress that Americans support policies that promote predictable scheduling and high-quality childcare for working parents.
Parents seek work opportunities to provide a better life for the children. But when this leads to on-call assignments and little predictability, families get less time together for activities like reading and doing homework. We must demand that Congress put families first and stop companies from unnecessary just-in-time scheduling practices that leave families in limbo.
