Save WCKY WSAI'S Progressive Talk Format!  The word is out that WCKY WSAI 1530 1360 AM,  "The Revolution of Talk Radio" is up on the chopping block if listenership does not increase.  We think it is imperative for democracy's sake that greater Cincinnati have a progressive voice on the airwaves.  This petition is an effort to show Clear Channel that we ARE listening.  Please join us in asking WCKY WSAI to continue with its progressive talk programming.

UPDATE 07/07/2006:  Since this petition was created, Clear Channel has moved the Progressive Talk Format to WSAI, 1360 AM, which is a much weaker signal than WCKY, 1530 AM (5000 watts as opposed to 50,000).  This move makes it abundantly clear that Clear Channel does not realize how important a  progressive voice on the radio in Greater Cincinnati is to so many.  We will continue to gather petition signatures for this reason.

UPDATE 08/009/2006: Ed Schultz is fed up with Darrell Parks' negligence, especially dead air and double audio on WSAI. Listen here.

The word is out that WCKY 1530 AM,  "The Revolution of Talk Radio" is up on the chopping block if listenership does not increase.  We think it is imperative for democracy's sake that greater Cincinnati have a progressive voice on the airwaves.  This petition is an effort to show Clear Channel that we ARE listening.

We need WCKY's progressive voice on the air so that there is more than one (very loud right-wing) perspective being heard on the radio in Cincinnati.  Even the host of one of the shows airing on WCKY has been asking for help against an apparent campaign by right wing groups to have the station'ss progressive talk format cancelled.  Thank you for fighting to save WCKY's current lineup from those who would seek to silence differing opinions.  Now more than ever we need to hear open, diverse discussion about the state of our democracy.

According to a Cincinnati Enquirer article by John Kiesewetter:

Liberal talk has not been a hit here since WCKY launched the format 18 months ago with Springer's national talk show. WCKY ranks No. 18 among stations here, with a 0.9 audience share for winter quarter, down from a 1.3 in summer and fall. Schultz's show, with a 1.0 audience share, outperforms the station average. More people listened to oldies on the station in 2004 before the format switched.

Cunningham's station, WLW-AM, is No. 1 with an 8.9 share. Limbaugh's station, WKRC-AM, is No. 12 with a 3.4 share.

Clear Channel could drop the liberal talk format if the WCKY audience doesn't grow, says Darryl Parks, Clear Channel's AM operations director here.

"We're not happy with the (ratings) results. We're always looking for a way to improve our product (stations)," Parks says. "This isn't about any political ideology. This is all about ratings and revenues." (http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060612/ENT/606120313/-1/all)
