Ask Governor Inslee to say YES to Southern Resident orcas & NO to a new terminal less than a mile from WA State!

Sign this petition to tell Governor Jay Inslee that you agree with the 41 organizations requesting that he oppose the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 (RBT2) container ship project on behalf of Washingtonians and the environmental, cultural, and economic resources of the state.

RBT2, a three-berth container ship terminal, will be located less than a mile from Washington State. RBT2 would increase container ship traffic through the transboundary waters of the Salish Sea by 468-520 transits each year and would be constructed over 437 acres of critical habitat for Southern Resident orcas, salmon, and migratory birds in the Fraser River Delta. RBT2's vessel traffic would increase the risk of cargo, hazardous materials and oil spills. RBT2 would increase underwater noise impacts and increase the risk of ships striking endangered Southern Resident orcas.

Canada's Federal Review Panel report states that RBT2 would have "numerous" environmental impacts, including "significant adverse effects on Chinook salmon" and "significant adverse and cumulative effects on SRKW [Southern Resident Killer Whales]."

RBT2 will put at risk Washinton State's signficant investments and the progress made to date on the Southern Resident Orca Task Force recommendations and the protection and recovery of the Southern Resident orcas, their critical habitat, and their food web.

Thank you for asking Governor Inslee to oppose RBT2 and for taking action to help protect Southern Resident orcas and the Salish Sea!
