Save their Home: Act Now to Protect Grizzly Bears

In the early 1800s, an estimated 50,000 grizzly bears roamed North America in places like the American southwest and throughout the Great Plains. But today, fewer than 1,900 remain in the continental United States.

Grizzly bears in the United States just don't have the habitat they need—they've been pushed to the furthest corners of their historic range. The protected public lands that grizzly bears need to forage and breed are in danger, threatened by development.

Investing in habitat is the best way to ensure grizzlies' long term survival. And, for more than 50 years, the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) has been protecting millions of acres of prime habitat for wildlife all across the country—from prime grizzly territory to nearly every county nationwide.

But Congress has failed to fully fund LWCF, and the stakes could not be higher. That means critical conservation work is at risk and thousands of acres across grizzly country could go unprotected. And so will hundreds of other important conservation programs that help save other vital species, keep our water clean, and protect nature nationwide.

With your support, we can help protect thousands more acres of lands to give grizzlies in the continental U.S. a fighting chance. Call on Congress today to protect the natural resources grizzlies and other precious wildlife depend on.

Dear Representative/Senator,

Subject: Fully Fund the LWCF Right Away

With threats to nature rapidly increasing, it is especially critical to fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) immediately. Congress underfunds LWCF year after year, and we cannot afford to put essential conservation programs in jeopardy.

LWCF is one of America's most important and successful conservation programs, benefiting every state in the nation. LWCF has a 50-year track record of helping provide clean water, conserve natural resources, increase recreation opportunities and support communities.

Vital conservation work is in danger every day LWCF continues to be underfunded. Plus, increasing its funding will not cost taxpayers a penny because it's paid for with drilling revenues from oil and gas companies. I ask you to fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund as soon as possible.
