We the Community Demand that The Honorable Courts of Augusta County reconsider the release of Thomas Rankin

Thomas Rankin was arrested and held at Middle River regional Jail for crimes he committed. However, arrangements were made at his court date that specifically stated he would be released on house arrest on Oct 1, 2020. While serving his sentence the Department of Corrections had fought and won a battle regarding release dates of persons who had committed a violent crime. Mr. Rankin was told he would be released on the specified date and then the new law for DOC went into effect and DOC refused to release Mr. Rankin based on that law WHICH WAS NOT IN EFFECT WHEN HE WAS SENTENCED. Unfortunately Mr. Rankins mother has passed away after fighting so bravely and so hard to remain here to welcome her boy home, and he simply wants to come home to say goodbye and go on about his life. We the community and friends of Mr. Rankin demand that this be re advised.
