Clean Up Cliffside and the Broad River!

Duke Energy's coal ash pits at the Cliffside Power Plant (James E. Rogers Energy Complex) are polluting the Broad River and its tributaries with toxic heavy metals. There are two coal ash ponds right next to the Broad River that contain 7.5 million tons of toxic coal ash. Contaminated water from these ponds seeps into the river and pollutes the groundwater. The dams that hold back these ash basins are rated as high hazard risks, meaning that if they broke there would almost certainly be a loss of life.

Despite the fact that Duke Energy has a lined landfill across the street capable of handling all their toxic coal from these ponds, they refuse to do the right thing. Tell Duke Energy to clean up their mess!

We plan to bring your signatures to represent citizen voices at a meeting with Governor Roy Cooper on the coal ash issue.
