Protect School Kids From Environmental Hazards

The kids at Marsh Fork Elementary School in West Virginia are just like any other. They come to school each day to learn and have big dreams of becoming zoologists, veterinarians and ballerinas.

But looming over Marsh Fork sits a coal silo, which for years has created concerns about the students' exposure to chemical-laden coal dust. Plus, a dam just 400 feet above the school is all that prevents nearly 3 billion gallons of toxic coal sludge from reaching school grounds.

Thanks to help from explore.org, Marsh Fork Elementary will be relocated to a safe location. However, all children deserve a safe place to learn, including those from coal-mining communities.

Pledge to protect our children's health by ensuring all elementary schools are in areas safe from coal waste and other environmental hazards.

In order to help protect children I pledge to:
- Be aware of potential hazards near the elementary schools in my community
- Report any potential hazards to appropriate officials
