Support a New York Solar Jobs Bill!

  • par: Sierra Club

Right now we have a unique opportunity to put New Yorkers back to work building a clean energy economy.

Our representatives in Albany are considering a solar jobs bill that could help create 22,000 new jobs all while decreasing our dependence on dangerous, dirty sources of energy like coal and natural gas.

It's a huge opportunity to jump start our economy, but powerful special interests want to stop the bill in its tracks.

Help show our legislators it is time for New York to invest in a clean energy economy. Tell Governor Cuomo and your representatives to support the Solar Jobs Bill for all New Yorkers today!
Subject: Support a solar jobs bill this year!

Dear [Decision Maker],

For too long New York has lagged behind our neighbors in Pennsylvania and New Jersey in creating good, sustainable jobs with a strong, long term commitment to 5,000 MW of solar power. I support solar power because it can help create more than 22,000 new jobs and spur $20 billion in economic activity for the state while decreasing harmful pollution from coal, oil, and other dirty fuels and supporting our electric system's reliability at times of high demand.

New York is not doing enough to make the transition to clean, renewable energy, and we are falling behind in our efforts to meet our ambitious renewable energy goals. Please support comprehensive solar legislation such as the Solar Industry Development and Jobs Act of 2012 to set a target of 5,000 MW solar energy target for New Yorkers, and lay the groundwork for future programs such as feed-in-tariffs to reach and exceed our renewable energy goals.
