For decades, multinational companies have profited from human rights abuses and environmental destruction.
Businesses in Europe have exploited natural resources in every corner of every continent, intensifying climate breakdown and intensifying poverty and inequality.
The next few months are make-or-break for whether the European Union will act to reel them in.
Giant European corporations have not only escaped accountability for these abusive practices - they've also become obscenely rich from them.
From the tropical forests of Brazil to the complex coastal ecosystems of the Philippines, businesses in Europe have repeatedly ignored the interests of the communities and natural environment they exploit.
At the moment, the European Union is negotiating a law that should put communities before corporate profits – but it's in danger of being watered down by big business lobbying.
Sign our pledge and ask the EU to pass a law that holds corporations accountable for human rights and environmental abuses!
Over half a million people have already called for this law. The only voices pushing to weaken the law are those whose profits are under threat; that's the lobbyists for big banks and Europe's biggest companies.
And worryingly, governments across Europe have been listening. EU Member States have already caved to industry pressure and want to exempt the financial sector from the final law, and not oblige companies to act on climate.
But there's still hope. If European lawmakers take a strong position in the final negotiations, the new law could change the way companies do business, help clean up global supply chains and promote sustainable development.
Passing strong legislation would show global leadership on the most pressing crises we face and help create a more sustainable future.
Time is up for abusive corporations. Sign our pledge today and demand an end to businesses profiting from their unethical actions!
