Stop Methane Pollution on Our Public Lands

Every year, the oil and gas industry fracks on our public lands and wastes hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of natural gas and releases dangerous methane pollution that is contributing to climate change and harming our health.

Fortunately, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has proposed putting a stop to this by adding measures that will reduce methane pollution from oil and gas drilling on our public lands. But the deadline for comments is April 22!

Speak up now: Tell the BLM you support the proposed rule, and urge the agency to make it as strong as possible to protect our climate and public health.
Thank you for proposing commonsense safeguards to reduce natural gas waste and methane pollution from oil and gas drilling on America's public and tribal lands. Reducing methane pollution that is vented, flared, and leaked from our public lands is a win for our climate, public health, and taxpayers.

As the rule moves forward, I ask that you eliminate several loopholes and include strong enforcement measures. I also urge you to ensure adequate protection of our environment and public health by placing strong limits on flaring and increasing the frequency of required leak detection and repair inspections. These proposed regulations are an important step in the right direction and I hope you will finalize them as quickly as possible.

Sincerely,
