Protect America's Seniors: Strengthen Medicare and Social Security

Social Security and Medicare are two of the greatest success stories in America. These two programs have lifted millions of senior citizens out of poverty and continue to be a lifeline for seniors, survivors, people with disabilities and their families. We should be defending both programs, not undermining them.

But too many folks in Washington don’t share that view. With fiscal hawks ascendant, these vital programs are at greater risk now than ever.

Some legislators have actually suggested cutting benefits by all sorts of methods -- raising the retirement age, changing the Cost-of-Living Adjustment to reduce already modest earned benefits and even outright privatizing Medicare and Social Security.

Today's senior citizens have worked hard their entire lives with the promise of guaranteed benefits that are increasingly vulnerable. Any cuts could leave millions of Americans with unprecedented financial hardship and stress.
