Prove the People of Connecticut Support Medical Aid in Dying

Big things are happening in Connecticut! The Joint Committee on Public Health in the state legislature has introduced H.B. 6425, "An Act Concerning Aid in Dying for Terminally Ill Patients," legislation authorizing medical aid in dying for terminally ill patients. Connecticut residents deserve to be empowered to choose end-of-life care that reflects their values, priorities, and beliefs. Nine other states plus the District of Columbia have laws allowing for this compassionate option.

The Committee has tentatively scheduled a virtual hearing for Friday, February 26th. We know the opposition will be out in full force, and we need to flood this hearing with support for this crucial legislation. Will you add your voice today, and click to submit written testimony for the hearing?

Subject: Will you submit testimony in support of medical aid in dying?

Dear Public Health Committee,

I am writing today to share my testimony in support of H.B.

H.B. 6425 provides protections for both the patient and the health care provider. It is completely optional; no one can be forced to use it, and at least two doctors must be consulted. The option is only available to an adult who has six months or less to live, is able to make an informed health care decision and is able to take the medication themselves.

Medical aid in dying is available to 22% of Americans. I urge the Public Health Committee to vote in favor of this bill and to send it to the floor for a vote. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed many of the vulnerabilities in our healthcare system, and this is one way to ensure every person in Connecticut can choose a peaceful end of life on their own terms.
