Don't Let Aboriginal People Go Hungry!

It's hard to imagine paying $12 for a carton of milk, $29 for cheese spread, and $17/kg for peppers - but this is the reality in the far north.

In the territory of Nunavut, people spend an average of $1,234 a month on food. That is double the average of $605 for the rest of Canada overall!

The high cost of living, including high food prices, has had an especially dramatic impact on Aboriginal people living in Nunavut. As people are forced to make choices about what they can afford, the food bank in Iqaluit has seen an 18% increase over the past year. In the community of Arctic Bay, the school breakfast program provides food for 200 children each day - that's 25% of the entire population.

Tell the federal government to help small northern communities like those in Nunavut find long-term solutions for surmounting high living costs and make sure no Aboriginal communities go hungry.
