These Celebrity Chefs Don't Want to Ban Cancer-Linked Chemicals in Our Cookware, and the Reason Will Shock You

California legislators voted to ban PFAS -- also known as forever chemicals -- in cookware! This is a crucial step toward protecting public health and environmental sustainability in an age where consumers are constantly in contact with dangerous, poorly regulated synthetic chemicals.

Clearly this is a great policy. So why are celebrity chefs defending the toxic substances that are so often found in our cookware and food, and even going as far as trying to prevent this bill from being passed? The answer is to follow the money. All of these chefs either "sell or endorse cookware lines."

PFAS build up in our bodies and are linked to birth defects, slowed infant development, and multiple forms of cancer. These celebrity chefs should be ashamed that they're putting profit above the health of consumers!

Sign the petition now to tell Gavin Newsom to listen to scientific and medical professionals, not celebrity chefs, and sign California's ban on PFAS without delay!

Celebrity chefs, like Rachel Ray, Thomas Keller, Marcus Samuelsson, and David Chang, are now urging lawmakers to keep nonstick products that we know are toxic on the market, despite all of the evidence against them.

Many of these chefs are part of the Cookware Sustainability Alliance, a cleverly-named group of manufacturers and engineers with a vested interest in producing more cookware products with the soon-to-be-banned forever chemicals. The chefs are -- ridiculously -- claiming that banning these products would prevent people from cooking healthy meals at home. But we know that toxic chemicals are not a necessity of healthy cooking.

Other countries have already banned these forever chemicals, and home cooks are doing just fine. In fact, before the emergence of the teflon, non-stick technology in the middle of the 20th century, more Americans cooked a higher percentage of meals at home. Teflon pans clearly aren't the central factor that allow people to cook healthier meals or not.

It's almost like this campaign isn't about a genuine concern for human health, just about celebrities' desire to make more money by marketing and selling more cooking products.

Luckily, state lawmakers are on the right side of history -- they have already voted to pass this critical bill, and now all that awaits is Governor Gavin Newsom's signature. Sign the petition and encourage Governor Newsom to protect the health of Californians and sign this bill into law immediately!
