Protect UK's Lab Animals: Increase Transparency in Animal Experiments

The ten thousand animals killed a day in UK laboratories were supposed to receive increased legal protection under revisions to a 2010 EU directive. But a recent report indicates that the UK government plans to keep their flawed laws intact and will continue to allow the nation's labs to conduct an excessive number of animal experiments.

Minimal changes to the 2010 EU directive are not enough to protect animals from the rising number of cruel lab experiments in the UK. The UK government is currently debating whether or not to abolish a secrecy clause that currently protects labs and denies protection for lab animals. Without the clause, animal experiments will not be allowed to continue out of sight and out of mind, and facilities will become answerable to the public.

UK citizens have a right to know what goes on behind the research labs' closed doors. Tell the UK government to create an effective and transparent animal experimentation law!
Dear lawmaker,

The proposed revisions to the 2010 EU directive are not enough to curb the inexcusably high number of animal experiments conducted in the UK. By 2013, a drastically different law should be in place to decrease the 10,000 animals killed a day in UK lab experiments.

It is absolutely imperative that a secrecy clause is deleted from the UK's animal experimentation laws. With such a huge number of animals falling victim to lab experiments -- transparency is key. The public has a right to know what is happening to animals behind closed doors. If UK citizens do not have access to this information, the number of animal experiments will only go up.

Please don't waste the opportunity to amend such a critical law that affects the lives and welfare of tens of thousands of animals. I urge you to implement bold, and effective changes that will decrease the number of animals killed in lab research in the UK.
