President Donald Trump and his administration continue to disregard the rule of law, this time by taking control of local law enforcement and once again deploying the military on American streets. We saw it in Los Angeles with the deployment of active-duty Marines and the National Guard to combat supposed "insurrectionist mobs" that didn't exist. Now we're seeing a similar intimidation tactic in our nation's capital, with the federal government trampling over Washington's ability to govern itself, and your city could be next.
This is another example of Trump abusing powers reserved for legitimate emergencies. In a democracy, people should be able to go about their lives without fear of armed troops and masked agents. Congress has a responsibility to the public to do everything in its power to stop President Trump's attempts to normalize authoritarianism.
There are very concrete actions our legislators can take to limit this overreach. Ensure this won't happen in your city by joining us in demanding Congress do its duty to represent the American people and as a check on the executive branch.
