Join the fight to beat stroke

Anyone can have a stroke – even a young, fit father of three.
"Gravity wasn't making sense," says Ken Wong. He was in his early 40's, an avid runner, creative director, husband, and father of two young boys, with a baby on the way. His head was spinning; black spots and stars swirled in his vision. Then he was on the floor, calling his wife, Carla. "It shook me to my core." After a few minutes, Ken's balance returned. Something told him he should go to the hospital.
After some X-rays and other tests in ER, he got a call: "You need to come in right away."
Results showed that Ken had a stroke. Luckily there was no lasting damage. But why did it happen? Was he at risk for another one? Feeling vulnerable, Ken agreed to go on medication to prevent future clots.
Today, Ken continues to lead an active life, running regularly and managing his creative agency. He hopes his story will raise awareness about the risks of stroke and the importance of regular medical check-ups, especially in communities where discussing health issues is stigmatized.
Stroke is on the rise in Canada due to an aging population, and more younger people having strokes.
