Horses who are forced to work by pulling carriages are surrounded by cars, inhaling exhaust, forced to haul heavy loads for hours on hard concrete, and working in temperatures of up to 99 degrees, with water breaks only given every two hours. This is inhumane and unnecessary. Please consider banning horse-drawn carriages in your city.
By banning horse-drawn carriages, you can stop horses from suffering and prevent potential tragic disasters. Other cities, such as Chicago and Salt Lake City, have banned this inhumane practice out of concern for both horses and human safety. Will your city be next?
There are humane alternatives, and I ask this council to explore those alternatives, for the sake of the horses, who are not meant to do such hard labor in these unnatural conditions and surroundings.
You have the opportunity to be another example of a city who cares about how its animals are treated. Will you take this step toward creating a more compassionate and humane community?
