Email your MSP to show them you support the choice of assisted dying

My name is Yvonne Pryor and I have stage four bowel cancer. At the moment I am responding well to chemotherapy and remain positive. Cancer won't beat me any time soon, but its progress is inevitable. When I come to the end of my life, I want the choice of assisted dying. But that choice is not an option in Scotland.

Please sign my petition and tell your MSP if you think the law should allow me the choice at the end of life.

I have great support at home from my husband, James, and I still have a young(ish) family. My youngest daughter is 12 and my youngest son 15. I also have two grown-up children. My eldest daughter has left home and my eldest son is studying at university. I also look after a man with learning disabilities who has lived with my family for over 25 years. We are a happy loving group and I have lots to live for.

But, when the cancer takes hold, I would get great comfort from knowing I could control my death at home. Sadly, Scots law denies me that.

When it is the end, I want to be with my family, I don't want to die in a hospice or hospital.

I want how and when I die to be my choice.

I want the choice of assisted dying. I don't want to have to wait until it is too late or have to take steps to take my life without medical guidance. I don't want to lose any of what precious time I have. I want to die in a dignified way that allows us all to celebrate my life and acknowledge its worth.

I'm asking you to support my campaign for assisted dying so that people like me don't have to suffer at the end of life. So that we are all able to die with dignity.

Please sign my petition and email your MSP, and let them know that the law needs to change.

Dear MSP

I believe that the current law in Scotland on assisted dying needs to change. Currently, too many people have to endure unbearable suffering at the end of life and have their wishes for a peaceful death ignored. This is hard and unfair - not just for dying people who deserve to have choice and control but also for their families who have to watch loved ones suffer. A more compassionate approach is needed.

People who are terminally ill should be able to control and manage their final weeks and months of life humanely and with dignity. They should have the right, when dying, to die well. The current law in Scotland tells dying people that if they want to control their death, they must travel abroad or do so behind closed doors.

Around the world, assisted dying laws are being introduced to help ensure that people do not suffer unnecessarily at the end of their life. It is time for Scotland to do the same and, as my elected representative, I urge you to speak out in support of a more compassionate law for Scotland on assisted dying.
