Stop Toxic Coal Ash Dumping in Lake Michigan

The S.S. Badger is the only coal-fired passenger ship left in the United States -- and for the past 60 years it has been dumping more than a million pounds of toxic coal ash into Lake Michigan each year.

In 2008, the Environmental Protection Agency gave the ship's owners a December 2012 deadline to find a way to power the ship that doesn't pollute Lake Michigan. But now that the deadline is approaching, the company is seeking a new permit that would allow the Badger to continue dumping coal ash for five more years.

The Badger's owners, with the help of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, are trying to pressure the EPA into backing down and letting the coal ash dumping continue. We need to make sure the EPA knows that dumping dirty coal ash in Lake Michigan is unacceptable.

Tell the EPA: Protect Lake Michigan from toxic coal ash. Don't let the dirty S.S. Badger off the hook.
Don't allow the S.S. Badger to continue dumping huge amounts of toxic coal ash into Lake Michigan. Protect our lake and hold the ship's owners fully accountable for their failure to clean up their act.
