No Taxpayer Money to Kill Cats

On November 5, 2011, U.S. Fish & Wildlife personnel will be offering an all-day workshop at the Wildlife Society Annual Conference in Waikoloa, Hawaii, entitled “Influencing Local Scale Feral Cat Trap-Neuter-Release Decisions.” This workshop is supposedly designed specifically for the purpose of training conservation activists to protest TNR efforts during the decision-making process.

For more than three decades, towns and municipalities throughout the nation have employed trap and kill policies to address the issue of homeless animals. What this experience has taught us is that killing is ineffective and a colossal drain on taxpayer dollars.

We Urge the USFWS to pull its support of the scheduled Wildlife Society Annual Conference workshop, which discourages the implementation of Trap- Nueter- Release. The public will no longer accept the continued lethal control of animals, a method that has proven to be completely ineffective and a consistent drain on taxpayer resources.
