FEDERAL RECOGNITION FOR SOUTHERN CHEROKEE NATION OF KENTUCKY

The last tribe of American Indians who waited 30 years for federal recognition from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Our Chief has turned down casinos, as it is NO PART of our culture, period! The BIA approved all documentation submitted by our tribe (they can be viewed at www.southerncherokeenationky.com ) and we've received our registration number. Thirty years is wrong! Chief Manfox has taught us that whatever is presented to our tribe is not for us - our gift "is the Indian blood" left to us by our ancestors. Anything that is presented to us now is in their memory. Help us and sign our petition for our ancestors. Our goal, as taught, is to help "ALL" American Indians.
Osiyo and wado,
As a tribal member of the Southern Cherokee Nation of Kentucky, I'm privileged to tell you about these hard-working American Indians and why we're asking for your signature to help in this long sought after endeavor.  Our tribes proven existence in the state of Kentucky is over 140 years. You're welcome to visit our website and read our historical documents www.southerncherokeenationky.com/

The commonwealth of Kentucky first recognized our tribe in 1893, by Governor John Young Brown. When our "old" website hit the internet (HTTP://SOUTHERNCHEROKEENATION.NET) along with the 1893 document, many scoffed and called us liars. It was an old document, old writing ... but it doesn't change the fact that it's REAL. Our Honored Chief Michael "Manfox" Buley showed the 1893 document to the present Governor of Kentucky, Ernie Fletcher, who immediately reaffirmed Governor John Brown's first state recognition. We have been state recognized now for 104 years. These documents, and others, can be seen on our new website: www.southerncherokeenationky.com/

You should also know that the BIA (the Bureau of Indian Affairs) came from Washington to our tribal land, in Henderson KY. Our Honored Chief Manfox presented the documents to them for review ~ and each and every one of them were approved as authentic. We received our registration number, which simply means they use the number while checking out tribe for ethics, credibility, etc. We were told by our tribal leaders that it will take 25 months - and then the BIA can simply tell us .... NO!!!!! It can also take up to 30 years. Would other ethnic groups in America have to wait that long for anything??!! Please do not consider this as whining, it is just a fact.

When asked about casinos, our Chief said, "Absolutely not! We carry our ancestors blood and that is our gift". Anything "gifted" to us as American Indians is because of our ancestors, not us. We can never stand in their place and say "we deserve". This great America will never hear a member of the Southern Cherokee Nation of Kentucky speak those words! We've already received the greatest gift of all ..... Indian blood. Our honored Chief serves on the Native American Heritage commission as vice-chairman. He works whenever he is asked and whenever he can volunteer for the commonwealth of Kentucky to preserve and teach. He has taught us well and continues to do so. He also works like many Americans and cares deeply for his family. We expect nothing for ourselves, for we deserve nothing. Our ancestors want us to help ALL American Indians. We do help now, with no resources. Just members working with Chief's help and instruction.

With love and spirit for all ethnic groups, we plead with you to please step forward and help our small tribe gain federal recognition. In doing so, you will be helping open so many doors and help so many human beings.

Wado (thank you)
Smoke and prayers,
Teresa "Giver of Peace"
Southern Cherokee Nation of Kentucky
