In 2005 Canada ratified the United Nation's optional Protocol to the convention on the rights of the child on the sale of children,child prostitution and pornography.Article 3(1) states "each state party shall make such offences punishable by appropriate penalties that take into account that grave nature".
Canada's current convictions do not reflect the severity of the crime or the sentences handed out to child traffickers in other countries.10 million women and children,including Canada,are enslaved in the $20 billion international sex-trade industry.The ranks of sellers and buyers are increasing at an alarming rate.
Canada needs to step up efforts to investigate and prosecute trafficking offences,increase efforts to investigate and prosecute Canadians suspected of child sex tourism crimes overseas and offer more protection for foreign trafficking victims.There are far too many gross human rights abuses around the world.Canada must make it clear that it will not tolerate human trafficking in Canada or abroad.
Please be a part of urging people to support Bill C-268. We really need this law.

Bill C-268 has passed it's second reading in the house of commons and is now before the standing committee on justice and human rights.This bill is an important step in combating human trafficking in Canada.Canada must make it clear that it will not tolerate the trafficking of ANY children in Canada or abroad.
