Tell Number-Fudging Australian Energy Minister to Resign
Australia is trying to do the right thing with a revolutionary carbon tax that would discourage emissions contributing to climate change. The proposed tax will nudge Australia's industries away from coal production and toward cleaner, more sustainable energy production. But Australia's Energy Minister Michael O'Brien blatantly tried to sabotage the progressive plan.
O'Brien ignored perfectly good research compiled by the people in his department and published numbers of his own to argue against the tax and protect his own turf. His massaged figures show his home state of Victoria will suffer the worst economic consequences of the tax. In reality, the carbon tax would do no such thing.
Tell O'Brien that an energy minister's job is to devise sustainable energy solutions that will work both now and in the future for the good of the whole country. Tell him he has failed in his commission and should resign.
We the undersigned are saddened to learn that you have abused your position as energy minister to drag your feet on a progressive measure meant to encourage clean energy solutions. We are equally sad to learn that you have massaged economic predictors to protect your home turf of Victoria. It was absolutely your job to come up with sustainable models of clean energy. You have failed your commission and should resign.
