Save "GENERAL HOSPITAL!"
On June 6th, 2011, TVLINE.COM broke the news (to me, at least) that, after months of rumors and speculation, that Katie Couric had signed a deal with ABC for a daytime talkshow- a talkshow that could effectively take over the time slot of another beloved classic ABC soap- and the longest running soap in Northern America- General Hospital. Now, as a fourth generation General Hospital viewer- that's right, my family has been watching since the program started back on April 1st, 1963- I find myself faced with the problem of not having GH there for me any more. They want to take it off and replace it with more generic daytime talkshow programming. Well, no. I won't stand for it. We won't stand for it. It's up to us, the viewers, to take a stand against the unjust that has been brought up against us and our soaps. Sign here to tell those over in the ABC Daytime division that they cannot have our soap. We have to save it.
We the undersigned will all agree that General Hospital has, in some way, affected everyone's life. You can't find a person down the street who hasn't heard of, hasn't seen an episode of this iconic soap. And yet, at a time where soap viewership is dwindeling and the soaps themselves are all meeting rather quick, uninspired ends, General Hospital is now facing it's own sad fate.
It is time to stop this. We live in an America where no one wants to listen to The Chew, no one is interested in who can be the new Oprah. We do not want a hight-profile cooking show in our timeslot. We do not want to see Katie Couric- no offence- taking over our beloved General Hospital. We want to see the furthuring of the plots and charachters that we have all come to love. We, as a people, need General Hospital, the alwaysspresent anchor in our life. We ask you not to cancel our soap. We ask you to save it. To keep it going strong.
We the undersigned simply ask you to not give up on us, or the soap we love.
