I believe that non-violent federal offenders should be eligible for parole and/or early release. State prisons have already begun releasing prisoners due to overcrowding, and not all of them were non-violent offenders. Help to regulate the flow in federal prisons. I have personally been to Ft. Worth's Federal Medical Center where the majority of prisoners there are elderly, sick women who committed crimes such as computer fraud crimes, drug related crimes, identity fraud, and postal crimes. Federal prisons are just as overcrowded as state prisons. Balance and moderation is beneficial in all areas of life.
We, the undersigned, urge Congress to take a serious look at our prison systems and the way they work. State prisons, which hold murderers, rapists, and molestors, are allowing prisoners early release due to severe overcrowding, however, Federal prisons are not being included, and they are just as overcrowded as State prisons. If not, more so.
Please, find a way to revise our prison systems to help non-violent Federal offenders a chance at reform and freedom. Drug convictions can go to rehab, identity thieves can go to therapy, and computer frauds can go to workshops to better themselves. If we're really going to help reform peoples lives, we need to give them a chance to reform it, rather than waste the tax-payer's dollars.
