Dear Governor Crist,
The voters of Hillsborough County are just recovering from the death of Phyllis Busanksy, a committed public servant and professional whom the voters elected last November as the new Supervisor of Elections. Phyllis Busansky's recent passing is truly a tragedy not only for Hillsborough County, but also for the state of Florida as a whole.
Phyllis Busansky took major steps towards correcting the previously-flawed electoral processes, and in doing so, reshaped the purpose of the Hillsborough County Election Supervisor's office. In the short time that Supervisor Busansky was on the job, much of the voters' distrust has been earned again as a result of her building a belief, and faith in future elections.
We the undersigned believe that her vision and hard work in rebuilding Hillsborough County's elections process must be continued. The voters of Hillsborough County deserve to have an election system that is accurate and transparent. The voters of Hillsborough County deserve to have a Supervisor of Elections that serves only the needs of the voters.
Therefore, we the undersigned request you to appoint Hillsborough County's best applicant to fill Supervisor Busansky's vacancy and to meet the voters' needs, Lee Nelson. Supervisor Busansky has left a legacy that will be difficult to follow, but Lee Nelson is up for the challenge.
With an MBA, a B.S. in Management Information Systems, years of experience in managing a large software development team, almost 15 years in the technology industry, and the integrity and honesty that Supervisor Busansky's vision requires, we ask that you appoint Lee Nelson as Hillsborough County's next Supervisor of Elections.
Warmest Regards,
The Undersigned Voters of Hillsborough County
