Save These Hungry Horses

There have been 2 news stories regarding a herd of horses in the Orangeville, Ontario area, (Hillsburgh) that are reportedly starving. The pictures shown on CBC news show horses in different stages of hunger; some had all their ribs and hip bones showing.

The owner of the horses, Ian Lucket, had his property searched back in 2008 and again in 2010; the searches were used to gather evidence that resulted in seizure of 32 Tennessee Walking Horses and 14 charges that Luckett wasn’t taking proper care of them. Unfortunately, these charges were later dropped but he is back in the news again with evidence that his horses are not being properly cared for.

Dear Connie Mallory, Kate MacDonald and Alison Cross;

After seeing the CBC news report of the horses on Mr. Ian Luckett's property in Orangeville, ON, I ask that you please take action and have these horses checked out by an independent vet. By what the news report had shown, some of these horses are showing signs of starvation. It isn't normal for any breed of horse to have their hips showing. According to one of his employees, Mr. Luckett does not have enough hay to feed all of them.

Please do not let his email of June 28, 2011, prevent you from investigating his farm. If he cannot afford to feed all of his horses, then they should be placed in rescue farms where they can get the care they will need to recover.

You are the only organization who can save them before their condition gets to the point where they will have to be euthanized. Please take action now. Thank you for your help.
