On Thursday, November 12th at 3:40pm, a 12-year-old boy named Locke was hit by a car while crossing County Road 218 in Middleburg, Florida. He was on his way to hang out at Omega Park with my son Cole, his best friend. Locke is still in the hospital fighting for his life.
But Locke is not the first person to get hit on this stretch of road in front of Omega Park. The speed limit is 45 mph, but drivers often go much faster. This is especially dangerous because kids and families cross the street here all the time to enjoy the park's playground, tennis courts, and football and baseball fields.
We cannot wait for another tragedy to happen before we do something. Please sign this petition to demand that Clay County put in a crosswalk and flashing light at County Road 218 and Iris Street. We need this for our kids. They should not have to risk their lives to play in Omega Park.
