Gov Rick Scott: Pledge No Immigration Screenings for People Fleeing Hurricane Irma

As Hurricane Irma barrels toward Florida, we are calling on Governor Rick Scott to ensure that no immigration screenings will be conducted at shelters for those fleeing their homes.

The White House recently assured undocumented immigrants fleeing Hurricane Harvey in Texas that they will not be "rounded up" at shelters. (Ironically, this comes during a time when the Trump administration is becoming more aggressive about conducting deportations).

Many people in Florida are fleeing their homes, terrified that they may not have a house to come back to. Rebuilding a life is serious work, and the last thing people need to be worried about on top of that is getting scrutinized by law enforcement or deported simply because they sought out safety.
