Croatia, Don't Devastate Rare Bird Populations!

Croatia is moving full speed ahead with a scheme to excavate a 33 mile channel in the Danube River. The project is designed to "improve navigation"--at the expense of 300 bird species and other wildlife that depend absolutely on the Danube for their survival.

That section of the Danube is rich in biodiversity and floodplain forests essential to the survival of white-tailed eagles, little terns, and black storks, to name only a few. Experts predict the excavation project will severely degrade and compomise wildlife habitat.

This proposed river modification is a disaster that goes against the advice of the World Wildlife Federation. Tell Croatia not to excavate the Danube!

We the undersigned are appalled that you would put increased navigational efficiency over the needs of hundreds of animals species that rely absolutely on the floodplain forests of the Croatian Danube. You should protect, not degrade wildlife habitat in your country. Don't dig up the Danube!
