Colgate: Remove Cancer-Linked Chemical From Your Toothpaste!
Colgate is continuing to use triclosan in their Colgate Total toothpaste despite new studies that raise serious concerns about its safety. Triclosan is an antibacterial chemical linked to growth of cancer cells and disrupted development in animals. Colgate should follow the lead of other manufacturers and remove triclosan from its products.
Colgate Total was approved by the FDA in 1997, but the agency depended on company-backed research. Recent studies have raised serious concerns about triclosan. In response, Minnesota has passed a ban on triclosan use in consumer products and Procter & Gamble has promised to remove triclosan from all of its products (Crest is already triclosan free). Groups such as the National Resources Defense Council have called for a ban on triclosan due to both its health affects and its negative environmental impacts.
Colgate needs to stop endangering customers with the continued use of triclosan in their leading toothpaste. Please sign the petition to urge Colgate to remove triclosan from their toothpaste!
We, the undersigned, are concerned that your company is continuing to use triclosan in your Colgate Total toothpaste despite efforts by other manufacturers to phase the chemical out of their products. As you may know, triclosan is an antibacterial chemical linked to growth of cancer cells and disrupted development in animals.
We understand that Colgate Total was approved by the FDA in 1997, but the dangerous effects of triclosan were discovered earlier this year. Therefore, the research used to approve Total over 15 years ago is now outdated.
We believe that Colgate needs to stop endangering customers with the continued use of triclosan in your leading toothpaste. We respecfully urge you to follow the lead of other manufactures and remove triclosan from all your products. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
