Stanford University: Divest from Fossil Fuels NOW!

Universities are having a reckoning. Many institutions for higher education have contributed massively to scientific research on climate change and its devastating impacts. Yet while students learn about the horrors of a warmed planet, some of these same universities have massive endowments that are still invested in fossil fuel companies.

Sign now to tell Stanford University: protect people and planet! Divest from fossil fuels now!

Stanford claims to care deeply about climate change and its consequences for humans and non-humans alike. In fact, the University recently created a new climate and sustainability school just last year. On top of that, many community members have worked hard to push for change through Fossil Free Stanford (FFS), a student-led organization dedicated to pushing for divestment. Yet the University refuses to do the bare minimum by heeding the calls of activists and divesting from fossil fuels.

Other schools are leading the way in divestment. Recently, both Harvard and Dartmouth announced divestment plans, recognizing that the alleged goals of their institutions were at odds with their financial investments in a toxic, planet-destroying industry. Stanford must follow suit and divest immediately. Less than 1.5% of Stanford's financial portfolio is invested in fossil fuel companies to begin with, which would be simple to redirect toward clean and renewable energy instead.

Join us in demanding that Stanford University be on the right side of history and divest from fossil fuels before our planet reaches a point of no return. The time is now!
