Utah, Anti-Wolf Groups Don't Deserve $300,000!

Fewer than sixty Mexican wolves roam the ranges of Arizona and New Mexico. So why are state law makers spending $300,000 to wipe out Mexican wolves in Utah?

Utah's state leaders are expected to greenlight a $300,000 line item to launch a war against wolves that do not even exist in that state. That money will be used to teach people to fear and kill wolves and to represent hunting interests in Washington.

The Mexican wolf became extinct in the United States, due to poaching and habitat loss in the middle of the last century. The United States Fish and Wildlife Service reintroduced eleven wolves into eastern Arizona a few years ago. The fifty-eight or so Mexican wolves we have in the US are descended from those eleven. Utah's war on wolves is a shameless waste of taxpayer money. Tell Governor Gary Herbert to veto this budget item!

We the undersigned deplore your state's intention to decimate Mexican wolves that have not even crossed your borders!

There are fewer than 60 Mexican wolves in Arizona and New Mexico. And yet your state's lawmakers appear ready to spend $300,000 of hard-earned taxpayer money on a war against wolves. This is a shameless and irresponsible way to manage a state budget.

Humans have always posed a greater threat to wolves than wolves do to humans. To spend money educating the public to fear, hunt, and exterminate wolves is disgraceful!
