Abolish Race Based Affirmative Action

A significant problem with affirmative action is the use of race in the college admissions process. Many individuals feel that they are being mistreated as they never had a choice of what race they are. Furthermore, when affirmative action was first implemented, many minority groups were poorly represented and did not have a massive population in the U.S. yet. In today's society, many of these minority groups have grown exponentially, and Affirmative Action is not helping them anymore but instead hurting them.

In order to fix the underlying discriminatory effects of AA, the federal government should pass a law that does not allow race to be considered in the admissions process, but rather use socioeconomic status for affirmative action to ensure all applicants are getting equal opportunities during the admissions process. This would also account for more students from lower economic status to receive a degree and enter the workforce which could decrease poverty rates in the US.
