Free 79-Year-Old Anti-War Activist Margaretta D'Arcy!

79-year-old human rights and peace activist Margaretta D’Arcy was recently jailed for taking part in an anti-war protest at Shannon airport in October 2012. D'Arcy was sentenced to three months in prison for refusing to sign a bond agreeing that she would not return to the airport.

Shannon Airport is one of Ireland's primary airports, and it has a history of foreign military use -- mostly, American military stopovers. As of Nov. 2008, 1.2 million troops have passed through Shannon since the beginning of the Iraq War.

Margaretta and fellow activist Niall Farrell, members of Galway Alliance Against War, went onto Shannon's runway on Oct. 7th 2012 to protest U.S. military drone strikes and western intervention in Syria. It's believed U.S. drones go through Shannon via the US Hercules C-130′s that land there, despite claims that these aircraft are unarmed.

Margaretta is currently being treated for cancer, but she has always been steadfast in her determination to stop war. Please sign and share this petition to free her!
